Custodian and Warehouse Associate

This is a full-time, non exempt position that reports to the Warehouse Manager.

The Custodian and Warehouse Associate provides daily support to the Warehouse Operations by maintaining a clean, safe, and well organized facility. This role is responsible for routine cleaning and sanitation throughout Food Bank of Alaska’s warehouse and surrounding property to ensure a safe environment for staff, volunteers, and partner agencies.

The Custodian and Warehouse Associate works independently and as part of the warehouse team, following written and verbal instructions and completing custodial checklists at the end of each shift. Maintaining consistent sanitation standards across all facility areas is essential. Work areas include, but are not limited to, freezers, cooler, sort room, offices, bathrooms, mezzanine, boneyard, parking lot, and warehouse docks.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Remove trash, recyclables, compost, and food waste according to organizational and regulatory guidelines.

  • Sweep, mop, and operate floor cleaning machines. Clean spills promptly to prevent slip hazards and food contamination.

  • Move pallets as needed to clean underneath storage areas.

  • Properly use cleaning tools, chemicals, floor cleaning equipment, and outdoor power equipment.

  • Keep the janitorial closet organized and stocked.

  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization in the cooler and freezer.

  • Assist drivers with processing Safeway and Sysco donations on Tuesdays.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the boneyard and dry storage areas.

  • Complete custodial checklists at the end of each shift.

  • Follow all organizational policies and safety procedures.

  • Report safety hazards, facility issues, or equipment concerns to management.

  • Support pest control efforts by maintaining sanitation and reporting concerns immediately.

  • Perform light maintenance tasks as requested.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support warehouse operations.

Qualification
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Friendly, outgoing, dependable (attendance), consistent and team player.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good basic math skills
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Minimum one year of computer experience in MS applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy, loud warehouse environment with constant distractions
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, hold, and manipulate cans, boxes, and bags NTE 50 lbs
