What is Hunger Action Month?
In Alaska, the need is urgent. 1 in 7 people and 1 in 5 children face food insecurity. That means thousands of families are making impossible choices between groceries, rent, medicine, and heat.
At Food Bank of Alaska, we know hunger is more than an empty fridge. It is a barrier to health, focus, stability and dignity. While the problem is serious, the solution is collective. Our mission is to provide food with respect and to drive change that ends hunger for good.
This month is about activating our community. Whether you are an individual, business or organization, your voice and actions matter. When we work together we can make sure every Alaskan has the food they need to thrive.
How You Can Get Involved This Month
More events and activities will be added throughout the month. Stay tuned for updates on volunteer opportunities, social media challenges, and community partnerships.

Hunger Action Day
Wear orange and snap a photo with your team, your friends, or on your own. Share it on social media with #FeedingAlaska to help raise awareness. Use our printable sign and help us show why food matters.
Need an orange shirt? Order your official Hunger Action Month shirt from our Bonfire Store and wear it with pride.
Need a media kit? Submit a request to our Marketing team and we will mail one to you. The kit includes our Hunger Action Month toolkit with facts you can use to advocate for change, resources to help neighbors find food assistance, and a photo prop to share on social media.

Business After Hours
Join us at the Food Bank of Alaska warehouse from 5-7pm for food, drinks, and networking. We'll celebrate our 2025 Hunger Action Champions and share how businesses and community members are making a difference. This event is open to all and hosted in partnership with the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce.
Ways to Take Action
- Share a photo. Wear orange on September 9 (or throughout the month) and tag #FeedingAlaska to spread the word.
- Host a food drive. Start one at your workplace, gym, school, or faith community. We’ll provide tools to help you get started.
- Donate. Every $1 helps provide 2 meals to someone in need. Giving during Hunger Action Month helps keep shelves stocked.
- Volunteer. Sign up for a shift in our warehouse or at a food distribution site. It’s one of the most direct ways to make an impact.
- Sign up for our e-newsletter.
- Spread the word. Follow Food Bank of Alaska on social media, share our posts, and invite others to get involved.
