For many, a daily meal is a simple choice of what to eat. But for people facing hunger, a daily meal poses a very different type of choice. It’s often an impossible choice between food and other crucial needs, such as childcare, electricity or medicine.
That’s why Food Bank of Alaska joins Feeding America® food banks nationwide each September to take part in Hunger Action Month and inspire people to take action and bring attention to the reality of food insecurity in America. We know hunger exists in every community. We also know rural communities and communities of color are disproportionately impacted by economic instability – like the soaring inflation rate. Neighbors who have already been working to overcome the hardships wrought by the effects of the pandemic, are now faced with a 10% increase to buy groceries for their family. When difficult times hit, food can be the first thing people forego to make ends meet.
This September, join Food Bank of Alaska’s movement to end hunger. Your voice, actions, and commitment will help ensure every community has the food they need to thrive. Because when people are fed, futures are nourished. You can join the conversation by posting photos or stories to social media with #HungerActionMonth, #FeedingAlaska, @FoodBankofAlaska, and @FeedingAmerica.
Every action―big or small―is one step closer to an Alaska where no one is hungry. Join the nationwide movement to end hunger by donating, volunteering or advocating at Hunger Action Month.
