Grants & Communications Manager
The Grants and Communications Manager supports Food Bank of Alaska’s development goals by managing grant-related activities and creating content that strengthens donor and funder engagement.
This position is responsible for researching funding opportunities, coordinating grant proposals and reporting, maintaining grant tracking systems, and supporting story-driven communications that reflect organizational impact. Working closely with internal teams, the role helps connect program priorities with funding opportunities and ensures accurate, compelling content is developed to support fundraising and stewardship efforts.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Fundraising and Grant Management

Conduct ongoing research to identify and evaluate grant funding opportunities, foundations, government entities, and corporate funders that align with Food Bank of Alaska’s mission, operations, and program priorities.

Manage the grant application process by working across departments and with external partners to gather information, coordinate inputs, and ensure timely submission of complete applications.

Develop, edit, and review grant proposals and supporting materials, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with funder guidelines and deadlines.

Maintain grant information within organizational systems and develop or refine grant tracking and reporting tools as needed.

Support the organization in the administration of awarded grants, tracking relevant information related to deliverables, budgetary information as needed, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.

Monitor grantmaking trends, funding priorities, and relevant philanthropic networks to identify future opportunities and strengthen organizational visibility with potential donors.

Support the Chief Philanthropy Officer and Development team with donor engagement and outreach efforts as needed.

Participate in relevant professional development opportunities to strengthen grants, fundraising, and communications expertise.
Communications and Content Development
- Manage and continuously improve Food Bank of Alaska’s story collection process, working across departments to establish a consistent system for identifying, capturing, organizing, and developing content into audience-appropriate narrative that supports fundraising, stewardship, grant reporting, and external communications.
- In partnership with the Director of Marketing and Communications, support the planning and execution of cross-channel content aligned with the annual fundraising and communications calendar. Responsibilities may include identifying story and content needs for appeals, reports, campaigns, grant deliverables, and donor communications, as well as supporting content development from draft through final review.
- Develop and refine donor- and other stakeholder-facing content, including direct mail, impact reports, newsletters, acknowledgment messaging, and other fundraising or stewardship materials.
- Identify, collect, and write client and partner stories for use in grant proposals, publications, donor communications, and related materials, ensuring stories are accurate, respectful, strength-based, and aligned with organizational messaging.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to gather information, develop supporting materials, and ensure communications are accurate, timely, and aligned across channels.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
- Coordinate the Marketing and Communications team on social media needs, recognition, and public announcements related to grant awards. Provide additional administrative support for grant-related activities as needed.
- Respond to requests for grant-related information for audits, reporting, and internal accounting purposes.
- Participate in and support community events, special events, fundraisers, and meetings as needed.
- Serve as backup support Development Department functions including volunteer supervision when needed
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English, or a related field preferred, and/or 2+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate program impact into compelling content for a variety of audiences
- Some grant writing, fundraising, and donor communications experience preferred
- Strong research, organization, and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with modern communications tools, including social media platforms, creative software, website content systems, and AI tools for content support and workflow efficiency
- Experience using digital content and social media to build community engagement preferred
- Practical photography and videography skills preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building skills
- Initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Comfort representing the organization with individuals and groups preferred
- Must have reliable transportation and a clean driving record
