Grants & Communications Manager

This is a full-time, non exempt position that reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer.

The Grants and Communications Manager plays a vital role in Food Bank of Alaska’s mission by supporting our overall fundraising efforts through the research, securing, documentation, and tracking of grant funding and the development of compelling communications materials to engage our donors.

This individual will be responsible for supporting the diversification of Food Bank of Alaska’s overall fundraising efforts through a variety of development responsibilities with an emphasis on the identification of new grant funding opportunities and for managing the grant lifecycle for the organization. The leader in this role will also work cross-departmentally to ensure alignment on funding of key initiatives and to create and implement communications content (including story capture and reporting) to engage donors and other key stakeholders.   

Fundraising and Grants Management
  • Conduct ongoing research to identify funding opportunities, proactively seeking out relevant and high potential grant funding opportunities from foundations, government entities, and corporate funders that align with Food Bank of Alaska’s mission, operations, and existing and potential programs.
  • Manage the grant application process, working interdepartmentally as well as externally within the Food Bank of Alaska network to capture relevant information in a timely fashion, engaging multiple stakeholders with a highly customer service-oriented approach.
  • Develop compelling grant proposals and application materials, including writing, editing, and reviewing, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to grantor guidelines and deadlines. 
  • Maintain grant information within our tools and systems and develop new grant application and reporting tracking materials as needed.
  • Support the organization in the administration of awarded grants, tracking relevant information related to deliverables, budgetary information as needed, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with grantors and other donors through targeted outreach, stewardship, and regular communication, ensuring follow up on open opportunities as needed.
  • Monitor grant-based philanthropic field for trends to plan for future opportunities and ensure Food Bank of Alaska is connected to appropriate grant networks and exposed to potential relevant funding opportunities.
  • Support the Chief Philanthropy Officer and development team in working to develop our overall donor engagement efforts and outreach.
  • Identify and participate in relevant professional development opportunities. 
Communications and Content Development
  • Manage the development and refinement of a story-capture process for Food Bank of Alaska, working interdepartmentally to establish and maintain a regular cycle of regular and rhythmic identification, cataloguing and creation of content.
  • Support the planning and implementation of cross-channel content to support annual fundraising cycle, working closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager. This may include and not be limited to identifying story opportunities/needs for annual publications and grant reporting needs, scheduling and planning, and generating content from drafting to editing. 
  • Develop and refine donor-facing content including but not limited to direct mail, reports/newsletters.
  • Identify, collect, and draft client stories for use in grant proposals, publications, and acknowledgement letters. 
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information, develop content/collateral and coordinate outreach strategies. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred (e.g. English, communications or journalism) and/or 2+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with ability to translate program initiatives and impact into effective solicitation materials, proposals and reports for a variety of stakeholders. Some grant-writing and/or fundraising experience preferred.
  • Strong desktop research and related organizational skills.
  • Project management/coordination experience desired.
  • Highly proficient with MS suite, specifically Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience utilizing online content and social media to achieve community engagement preferred.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills required. Practical photography skills, and videography skills (preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Comfort representing the organization with individuals and groups desired.
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a clean driving record.
