Assistant Warehouse and Logistics Manager

The Assistant Warehouse and Logistics Manager supports both the Warehouse Manager and the Logistics Manager with day to day operations. This role oversees and participates in order selection, receiving incoming freight, loading and unloading freight vans and company vehicles, determining transportation options for outgoing freight, and maintaining accurate inventory controls.

This position delegates tasks when appropriate and confirms follow up to ensure work is completed to standard. It is responsible for validating the quality and accuracy of all outgoing orders, promoting a safe work environment, and ensuring that all policies and procedures are consistently followed.

The Assistant Warehouse and Logistics Manager is expected to model professionalism and strong work habits for warehouse personnel. This role assists with warehouse supervision and reports directly to the Warehouse Manager. In the Warehouse Manager’s absence, it reports to the Logistics Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 
  • Supervise all warehouse and logistics operations in the absence of the Warehouse Manager or Logistics Manager.
  • Helps to uphold an exceptional culture of customer service in Food Bank of Alaska’s warehouse by ensuring that food donors and agencies are served promptly, efficiently, equitably, and courteously.
  • Assists in the management of safe, secure and effective warehouse operations for transport, evaluation, storage, distribution and/or disposal of all incoming and outgoing products.
  • Assist in maintaining a master shipping schedule to ensure proper planning, best use of resources, and timely order delivery.
  • Assists in coordinating with the Warehouse Manager, Logistics Manager, and Food Program Coordinators on all inventory picking and shipping matters.
  • Act as a secondary contact for shipping and warehouse communications, working in a team to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally. 
  • Cross-train as a backup to the Warehouse Receiving & Inventory Associate.
  • Provides effective problem solving and critical thinking abilities to handle unexpected challenges.
  • Use effective time management, process control procedures, and teaming with other FBA staff.
  • Delegation of work assignments approved through management.
  • Help with order selection and provide bypass and priority mail support as needed.
  • Reinforce scheduled break and lunch times.
  • Assist with the Agency Desk when needed.
  • Be prompt, friendly, welcoming and courteous always. 
  • Assist drivers with loading & unloading of new incoming or outgoing products.
  • Ensure inventory control, including cycle counts, rack tagging, and annual inventory assistance.
  • Ensures and assists with daily cleaning of shopping areas including the cooler and freezer.
  • Assist in maintaining excellent food warehouse sanitation standards both inside and outside the building, including freezers, coolers, the repackaging room, bathrooms and the downstairs break room.
  • Assist with major events including warehouse donor tours, Blessing, etc.
  • Other logistics and warehouse duties as assigned
