Restrictions/Ineligible Uses
Organizations cannot receive funding for two years in a row. If you applied last year but did not receive funding, we encourage you to apply again this year.
Mini grants cannot be used for:
- Operating costs (e.g., utilities, staff salaries/stipends)
- Direct food purchases
Applicant Checklist
Do you have a request for a capacity-building project that will have a long-term impact on your organization’s ability to feed hungry Alaskans? If you can answer yes, then your project likely qualifies.
The Alaska Food Coalition mini grants are intended to increase an agency’s capacity to feed hungry Alaskans. For example, small infrastructure upgrades such as purchasing a new refrigerator, which will allow a food pantry to distribute perishable goods/food.
Successful applications should:
- Focus their proposal on one significant item rather than several smaller items, unless these items are very closely related by a common theme.
- Demonstrate how a proposed project will help fight hunger in Alaska.
- Discuss how the proposal will support your organization’s ability to offer more and/or better food to people in need.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee of past awardees and Food Bank of Alaska staff. Keep in mind that the reviewers may not be familiar with a program. Therefore, applicants should include a summary of their agency, its work, and its role in their community. The Alaska Food Coalition will give preference to agencies which are financially stable, receive strong community support, contribute to anti-hunger advocacy, and meet a demonstrated need (related to anti-hunger work) in their community.
Application Process
Applications may be completed by mail, email, or via the AFC webpage. If you do choose to hand write your application, please ensure your submission is legible. Agencies should fill out and return applications in hand to the Alaska Food Coalition by Friday, October 31, 2025. Applicants will be notified of awards by Friday, November 28, 2025.
If you have questions about the application process for a mini grant, organizations are encouraged to reach out to afc@foodbankofalaska.org.
