Warehouse Lead


The Warehouse Lead (Assistant Warehouse Manager) position will provide daily assistance to the Warehouse Manager. Overseeing and participating in order selection, receiving incoming freight, loading and unloading freight vans and company vehicles. Delegate when appropriate with follow-up confirmation. Validating a quality-controlled standard of orders leaving the warehouse, all while upholding safe practices in the workplace and ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed. The Warehouse Lead (Assistant Warehouse Manager) should set an example for other warehouse personnel to emulate. This position assists in warehouse supervision and reports directly to the Warehouse Manager.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Supervise all warehouse operations in the absence of the Warehouse Manager.
  • Helps to uphold an exceptional culture of customer service in Food Bank of Alaska’s warehouse by ensuring that food donors and agencies are served promptly, efficiently, equitably, and courteously.
  • Assists in the management of safe, secure and effective warehouse operations for transport, evaluation, storage, distribution and/or disposal of all incoming and outgoing products.
  • Delegation of work assignments approved through management.  
  • Help with order selection and provide bypass and priority mail support as needed.
  • Reinforce scheduled break and lunch times.
  • Assist with the Agency Desk when needed.
  • Be prompt, friendly, welcoming and courteous always.
  • Assist drivers with loading & unloading of new incoming or outgoing products.
  • Ensure inventory control, including cycle counts, rack tagging and annual inventory assistance.
  • Ensures and assist with daily cleaning of shopping areas including the cooler and freezer. 
  • Assist in maintaining excellent food warehouse sanitation standards both inside and outside the building, including freezers, coolers, the repackaging room, bathrooms and the downstairs break room.
  • Assist with major events including warehouse donor tours, Blessing and Gift.  Etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of an Associate’s degree and three years in warehouse operations utilizing warehouse equipment.
    • Friendly, outgoing, dependable, consistent, a team player willing to help wherever it is needed.
    • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Good interpersonal and public relations skills.
    • Good basic math skills.
    • Must be 21 years or older with a valid Alaska Driver’s license and clean driving record.
    • Minimum one year computer experience in MS applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy, warehouse environment with constant distractions.
    • Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, hold and manipulate cans and boxes and bags NTE 50 lbs.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
