Meals to You: Summer Meal Boxes for Kids

Ensuring Kids Have Meals All Summer Long

When school is out, many children lose access to nutritious meals. Meals to You helps bridge that gap by delivering meal boxes directly to eligible families in participating school districts across Alaska. This program provides weekly meal boxes to support children during the summer months, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need to thrive.

How It Works
  • Who Qualifies? Families with at least one child enrolled in a participating school district.
  • What’s Included? Each box contains nutritious, shelf-stable meals designed to last one week.
  • How Are Boxes Delivered? Meal boxes are shipped directly to homes via the United States Postal Service (UPS).
  • When Do Deliveries Start? Boxes are expected to arrive by the first Monday of June, with adjustments made for shipping delays.
  • How Long Does the Program Run? Families will receive weekly meal boxes throughout the summer, typically for 12-13 weeks.
How to Apply

The application period is April 1–30, 2025. Food Bank of Alaska will provide a QR code through participating school districts, leading families to an online application. Only one application per household is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the program?

The first shipments of 5-day meal boxes will be delivered in the first week of June and continue until the last full week before school goes back into fall semester.

Do I have to pay for it?

No, this program is a federal United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) administered by the Food Bank of Alaska (FBA) in collaboration with the Department of Early Education and Development (DEED).  All MTY participants will receive these meals at no direct cost to them.

Who can I contact if I have any questions?

For quicker assistance, please email us at MTY@foodbankofalaska.org. Due to high call volumes, email is the most efficient way to reach us. If you prefer to call, our phone number is 907-308-7601.

Does Meals to You Alaska (M2YA) Replace SFSP (Summer Food Service Program)?
No, MTY will operate within the SFSP. MTYA expands access to SFSP to communities that have historically lacked access to SFSP. For those communities with SFSP programs children who receive meal boxes can still attend SFSP programs but can only receive 2 meals from the SFSP program since they are already receiving food via MTY.
