Logistics Management Trainee / Warehouse Associate


The Logistics Management Trainee / Warehouse Associate will provide support to both the Logistics and Warehouse Managers. This is a training position which involves engaged learning for managing and monitoring transportation choices, warehousing and inventory controls to keep costs down and maximize productivity. This includes order selection, packaging and shipping of food and other materials, participating in receiving incoming freight, loading and unloading freight vans and company vehicles, daily cleaning assignments, inventory counts, safe forklift and motorized jack operations. The Logistics Management Trainee works closely with the FBA staff and delivery drivers to ensure proper communication for deliveries. The Logistics Management Trainee / Warehouse Associate reports directly to the Warehouse Manager.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Assists the Logistics Manager for effective and efficient food shipments for FBA, training to become an expert on all shipping methods throughout Alaska, including analyzing and understanding cost, speed, tracking and other factors. 
  2. Assists with designing and implementing shipping processes to maximize productivity.
  3. Provides effective problem solving and critical thinking abilities to handle unexpected challenges.
  4. Assists to ensure all government paperwork has been processed properly and maintained in organized filing systems.
  5. Assist in maintaining a master shipping schedule to ensure proper planning, best use of resources, and timely order delivery.
  6. Assists in coordinating with the Warehouse Manager and Food Program Coordinators on all shipping matters.
  7. Learning effective time management, process control procedures and teaming with other FBA staff.
  8. Assists in the shipping process, including order selection accurately and in a timely fashion, preparing orders for shipment, loading and unloading of incoming and outgoing freight, arranging for shipments; and follow up on any lost shipments.
  9. Act as a secondary contact for shipping, working in a team to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.
  10. Assist with all shipping data, including reconciliation, analysis, and reports.
  11. Assists with the Agency Desk, inventory controls and cycle counts, rack tagging, and maintaining good quality controls and warehouse sanitation standards.
  12. Other logistics and warehouse duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree 
  • Two years’ experience in volunteer management, retail services, or warehouse operations.
  • Good math skills and minimum one year computer experience in MS applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, hold and manipulate cans and boxes and bags not to exceed 50 lbs.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Valid Alaska driving license and clean driving record. Ability to receive a Department of Transportation health card
