Gifts That Do Good – Wrapping paper not required

It’s the giving season, which means it’s time to start thinking of those special people on your list. But, before you run out and buy something bright and new, consider giving your loved ones a gift that does good this year. And because the hardest part of gift giving is thinking of one, we did some of the leg work for you. A nice gift does not have to be expensive: you might donate to help feed our neighbors in need, volunteer to deliver food to homebound seniors, or encourage your workplace to host a food drive. These gifts are as enjoyable to give as they are to receive.

A Donation to Food Bank of Alaska

What do you give the person who seems to have everything? A gift for someone else, of course. Donating in someone’s name not only benefits a valuable effort but shows your friend you care about what matters to them. You can make a one-time donation or set up a monthly contribution in your friend’s honor. Either way, you’ll be giving a gift that brings a smile to more than just your giftee’s face. Download one of the donation slips below to give to your loved one and make a difference this holiday season.

A Volunteer Experience with Food Bank of Alaska

When you volunteer at Food Bank of Alaska, your impact goes well beyond the immediate project. We are truly honored and humbled to work with so many wonderful and generous people committed to a hunger-free Alaska. We could not accomplish all that we do without the hours and talents provided by so many people who care. You can volunteer with coworkers, family, and friends.

Hosting a Food Drive to Benefit Food Bank of Alaska

You can help to keep Food Bank of Alaska’s shelves stocked with a variety of nutritious foods by organizing a food drive. Food drives are important year-round and especially so in spring and summer when our donations are low. Plan a drive to collect food. Please note we only accept donations of non-perishable food from food drives. Please review our healthy donation list for ideas on what we need most.

Here’s how:

  1. Register your drive. Please fill out this form to let us know about your food drive.
  2. We have red branded food drive barrels available for use for your drive. Please request the number you would like when submitting the form. *Please note the food drive host is required to pick up and drop off the barrels, along with the food collected.
  3. Use our food drive poster, which you can choose to fill in with specific information about your food drive. Download it here.
  4. Hold your food drive. Now is your chance to get your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors involved. Every 1.2 pounds of food you collect is the equivalent of a meal for one person. We also welcome monetary gifts you raise during a food drive – with every $1 of your support, you help distribute three meals.
  5. Deliver your donations M-F, 8am-4:30pm to the Food Bank of Alaska Warehouse. Dropping off your food helps to maximize the value of your donation and keeps our trucks out on the road collecting food from the food industry and delivering food to families through our Mobile Food Pantries.
