When you volunteer at Food Bank of Alaska, your impact goes well beyond the immediate project. We are truly honored and humbled to work with so many wonderful and generous people committed to a hunger-free Alaska. We could not accomplish all that we do without the hours and talents provided by so many of you who care.

Tips for all Volunteers

We want your volunteer experience to be enjoyable and rewarding, which means there are a few rules we need you to know. Before you sign up for an event, please review the list below of the most-commonly-referenced guidelines, policies, and reminders. If you have any questions, please refer to our FAQs and Policies page that can be found here. We look forward to working with you!

  • All volunteers, whether individuals or those part of a group, must register online for volunteer shifts ahead of time. Walk-in volunteers are accepted only for special events on an extremely limited basis.
  • All volunteers must wear closed-toed, closed-heel shoes. Those who do not comply will be asked to volunteer at another time.
  • Please monitor your emails. The confirmation emails contain important information to make your volunteer experience successful. We also send reminder emails and event updates (like event cancellations) via email.
  • If you are unable to attend, please make sure to cancel your registration 24 hours in advance of the activity to open up a spot for another volunteer. Our volunteer events often have several waitlisted individuals waiting for a spot, and we need full volunteer shifts to efficiently feed thousands of Alaskans. There is a link to cancel your registration in the confirmation emails.
